Headed by Superintendent Mike Funk and Project Manager Dan MacDonald, the four-phase project was brought to completion in May 2022. The main goal was to create an inviting, easily navigable space for all patients to begin their care experience. In addition to structural changes, carefully considered aesthetic choices regarding the use of warm colors, abundant light, art, furnishings, and other elements played a critical role in creating a welcoming, comforting, and streamlined patient experience.
A major focal point is the custom-designed bulkhead that was installed directly above the main reception desk. The complex bulkhead design mirrors the beautiful curves of the custom, pre-built desk. It was constructed on the ground before being lifted and mounted onto the ceiling in one piece.
The Terrazzo flooring required custom cutting, which was too loud and obtrusive to occur during occupied business hours. Dan navigated the schedule to ensure that this work was done during the night hours only, and within the agreed upon timeline.
Against the far wall, a two-storied, stacked stone accent wall measuring 25 by 30 feet is flanked by a modern railing system with curved balusters that resemble ocean waves. The earth tones of the stone wall pair wonderfully with the undulating appearance of the staircase and pay homage to the natural allure of the surrounding region.
