Talbot County Community Center Gymnasium

The Talbot County Community Center (TCCC) Gymnasium Addition Project was a one-year project that began in 2023 and consisted of site work, concrete and masonry, erection of a 19,500 SF pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) with a mechanical mezzanine, new HVAC, plumbing, hardwood gymnasium athletic flooring, and gym equipment. The very busy existing community center was to remain occupied and operational during construction.
The greatest challenges of this project were maintaining the strict schedule to ensure completion prior to peak use of the existing ice-skating rink for hockey season. Sequencing of activities was critical to the successful construction of this project due to the care required for gymnasium flooring.
- Contract Type: Stipulated Sum
- Project Size: 19,500 square feet
- Project Duration: 275 days
- Architect: Davis, Bowen & Friedel, Inc.
Talbot County was pleased to award the gymnasium addition project to local firm Willow Construction,
LLC. The 19,000 s.f. addition serves as an example of excellence in construction from their collaborative efforts with stakeholders, to ensuring the project progressed smoothly, to their attention to detail. The new gymnasium will serve as a tremendous multi-use asset for our county and particularly for our youth. With maple flooring and ample space, the new gymnasium can be used for a variety of sports such as basketball, volleyball or pickleball, and also as a community space for meetings and events. We are delighted with the workmanship that Willow Construction provided, the interpersonal working relationship from start to finish, and we applaud the team’s efforts.— Clay B. Stamp, Talbot County Manager
