The newly built fire station is on a two-acre piece of property on Ocean Gateway, slightly outside of the Berlin town limits. The new 4,8000 sf fire station was design and constructed using a pre-engineered metal building structure. The building was designed to allow for future expansion, as this portion of the project is Phase 1 of the fire company’s long term plans. The building includes 3 bays, fitness area, restrooms, kitchenette and a mezzanine that is structurally supported for future expansion of office space. The new build required the addition of a water tower and fire pump for the building fire protection system.
Project Challenges & Solutions
- Construction started during the winter months. The unfavored start time challenged our team to be creative with scheduling concrete pours.
- Coordination of the fire company’s equipment and fixtures, and with the pre-engineered metal building required upfront coordination. Multiple meetings and work sessions were completed during the shop drawings process before the building was finalized and procured.
